Knowledge of building and zoning regulations can be helpful because they govern how land can be used and what can be built in specific areas. Some key points to consider are zoning categories, which basically define themselves. (1) Residential zones; (2) Commercial zones; and (3) Industrial zones; (4) Mixed-use zones also exist that allow a combination of Residential and Commercial uses. Knowing where these zones are located within the city can be useful.
2. Fire Department
Residents unfamiliar with volunteer fire or EMS services should know their personnel respond to stations in privately owned vehicles. Idaho law allows them to turn on hazard lights, adorn their vehicles with additional flashing lights, safely exceed the speed limit, and safely proceed through intersections to expedite their response to the station.
Their vehicles are “emergency vehicles” and treated as such: Pull over safely, giving them the rightaway, just as you would an ambulance or fire engine.
3. Library
Thanks to grant funding, the library will soon have a facility upgrade to the front of our building. This upgrade begins April 1st (no fooling). During the construction, we will continue to be open. Patrons simply need to enter by coming to the back entrance; however, our locker system will be offline and our front entrance will be closed throughout the facility upgrade.
Please visit our website and follow our Friends of the Library on Facebook to stay connected with us and up-to-date on upcoming events!
4. Police Department
The Emmett Police Department encourages all citizens and visitors to remain vigilant in deterring and preventing crime in our community.
