The Emmett Messenger-Index's e-edition is a replica of our print edition without the inserts. You can browse through the pages just as if you had the newspaper in your hands.
Emmett Messenger-Index — your best choice for local news and advertising — has made a portion of its news content available. But that free content doesn’t reflect the full content of the paper.
If you’re only reading what the paper posts online for free, you’re only getting part of the news and information you need to stay informed about Gem County and the greater Treasure Valley. Each month, the paper publishes far more local news items, while its website carries about 20 percent of that.
If you want online access to all the content offered in the print edition, you want to be a VIP member.

  • Why don't you offer everyone free access to the Online Messenger?

It is a matter of fairness. We can't continue to ask our print subscribers to subsidize the cost of the Web site for those who do not subscribe. Our company is making a substantial investment in top-notch news reporting and the technology to bring it to you quickly and efficiently, seven days a week -- in the printed newspaper and on the Web. The cost of doing so is steep -- we cannot give away the product. Remember, if you're already a pre-paid subscriber to the printed edition of The Emmett Messenger-Index and have pre-paid for at least 12 months or taken advantage of one of our EZ Pay options, access to etrib costs you nothing. Our registration process will give you access to etrib.

  • Am I eligible to access the Online Messenger free of charge?

Yes, if you are a pre-paid subscriber to the printed Emmett Messenger-Index and have pre-paid for at least 12 months or taken advantage of one of our EZ Pay options.

We allow free access for newspaper subscribers by matching the Web user's registration information with our list of print delivery customers. Please be sure to sign up for etrib using the last name, street address, ZIP code and phone number where your newspaper is delivered.

  • How will you know if I'm a print subscriber to the Emmett Messenger-Index?

We check registration information for etrib against the subscriber records for the print newspaper.

To try to ensure an immediate match, enter the last name, address and phone number WHERE THE NEWSPAPER IS DELIVERED.

As soon as you have entered your email address and street address, the etrib registration system makes a quick check with the newspaper's circulation database. You will be prompted to complete the rest of the registration and click SUBMIT to be validated for free access.

If you get a message that we are unable to match your name, address and phone number with our database of newspaper subscribers, please CONTINUE with your registration:

Enter, in the Comment Box, any additional information that may help us match you, such as "new subscriber" or your print account number. Click SUBMIT at the bottom of the page CONTINUE until you have completed the rest of the registration. Click the final SUBMIT button

Your registration will be reviewed manually, and you will receive an email requesting more information or telling you that your print record has been located and you are validated for free access.

If you do not click the SUBMIT button, the computer will not keep a record of your registration and no further checks will be made. You will be sent an email either asking for more information or telling you that your records have been located.

  • If I am not a print subscriber to the Emmett Messenger-Index, what is the payment method?

Payment is by credit card (Visa, MasterCard, American Express or Discover). The charge is $16.50 per year. If you are new to the Online Messenger, you'll enter credit card information when you subscribe to our site. If you are an already registered user of etrib, you'll be prompted to add your credit card information to your registration when you visit our site. We will charge your credit card $16.50 the day you sign up, and will charge the card on the same day each year after that unless you cancel your Online Messenger subscription. All credit card transactions and registration for etrib are done on our secure server -- the safety of your information is very important to us.

  • How do I cancel my web subscription?

Please contact our circulation department at 1-208-365-6066

  • I'm not a print subscriber to the Emmett Messenger-Index and I don't want to pay to subscribe to the Online Messenger. Will I be able to access some free areas of the website?

Yes. Classified advertising and many other areas of our free website will be available.

  • Is there a charge to access archive articles?

If you are a subscriber to the Online Messenger, articles up to 14 days old may be viewed or printed for free.

If you are not a subscriber, there will be a nominal charge to view or print all articles.

When either the time limit or the article limit expires, whichever comes first, you'll be directed to the purchase page to add more articles. The time you purchase begins counting down when you do your first search.

We, like most newspapers, now charge a fee for access to earlier articles. People may purchase one article or arrange to purchase access to a greater number of articles within a given time frame.

Our charges, which are in line with the fees charged by other newspapers for similar services, help defray the considerable cost of building and maintaining the archive database.
