Gem County Commissioner Michele Sherrer resigned her position and last Friday, the county gave a goodbye party for her. She has been a commissioner for 10 years, also serving on various boards and committees including some at the state and federal level. Last spring, she decided she would not run for reelection of the office. Last month, she resigned effective Monday morning for a job in Canyon County. Now that her position is truly vacant, the Gem County Central Republican Committee will meet and the precinct chairmen will select three nominees whose names will go to Gov. Butch Otter, according to Marilyn Knighton, committee chairwoman. Otter will then choose the replacement who will serve until the person elected in November takes office. Sherrer represented Gem County District 3.
