This week's Messenger Index has one of my favorite things — "relish." No, I'm not writing about a condiment that goes on hot dogs. I'm thinking about a magazine that celebrates America's love of food.
Each month, the MI distributes this magazine that's all about food. In case you haven't realized, I'm all about food. I like food.
This publication has basic recipes and tidbits of information.
There's a recipe for maple sticky buns that doesn't use yeast. I've only made these with yeast. One with baking powder is worth a try. Should be easy
There's recipes with lentils. I've never tried lentils. But this looks good and easy too.
It's got an interesting mac and cheese — I really relish mac and cheese of any sort.
Of course, there is lots of other useful information in this week's MI.
• A couple of articles and photos are about food — apples and grapes to be specific. Great Emmett Valley of Plenty apples and grapes.
• I now know why emergency responders are so insistent that addresses be plainly posted.
• I found out something interesting about Gem County Assessor Dale Reynolds.
• There's a few changes going on with the community holiday kickoff.
•And ... a cupcake war? Not sure what that's about, but it sounds like food. I will have to check it out.
Don't forget Harvest Festival in downtown Emmett on Friday and Saturday. There's the River Through Time on the Gem Island Sports Complex on Saturday and Sunday. Both should be great fun.
